The Teacher Academy Programs develop and support Fresno Unified School District high school students through their journey of becoming highly effective educators through by utilizing the model of “Growing Our Own.”  The program offers a students a variety of learning opportunitities and exposure to careers in education through embedded workplace learning.  The programs outline the steps to becoming a successful educator and provides a bridge to employment with Fresno Unified.

Teacher Academy Saturday Program  

The Teacher Academy Saturday Program is a paid teaching career exploration program for current Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Students will explore teaching, develop and teach STEM lessons, and participate in national competitions through Educators Rising.

Program Support

  • Cohort model of learning
  • Prospective employment as a paraprofessional upon high school graduation
  • Priority consideration to Fresno Unified’s Pipeline to Teaching Programs

  • Must have a desire to work with children
  • ​Eligibility G.P.A. 2.0 or better and on track for graduation
  • Current current Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors in high school
  • Attendance rate requirement: 90% or above

Teacher Academy Summer Program 

The Teacher Academy Summer Program is geared for current Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who want to explore the teaching profession during a paid internship opportunity. Students will engage in professional learning about the teaching practice, work with students in summer school classrooms, and gain classroom experience. Students will also be given opportunities to apply for paraprofessional opportunities upon graduating high school.

Teacher Academy CTE Course

Description

The Teacher Academy CTE Pathway Course is designed for juniors and seniors interested in exploring careers in education. This course provides off-campus learning opportunities and experiences in elementary classrooms. Through various projects students will develop their communication, professionalism, and leadership skills. These projects may include the following topics: learning styles, cultural proficiency, instructional and engagement strategies, etc.

Program Supports

  • Training on lesson planning and instructional delivery with emphasis on reflective practices
  • Receiving coaching and mentoring during off-campus experiences
  • Creating and developing a professional resume alongside a digital portfolio
  • Providing network and career opportunities
  • Obtaining certification(s): Mandated Reporter Training, CPR Training, etc.
  • Priority consideration to FUSD Pipeline to Teaching Programs

Candidate Requirements

  • Juniors and Seniors at participating schools (Bullard, Edison, Hoover, McLane, Roosevelt, Sunnyside)
